About Us

Banzai was developed over the course of six years by Morgan Vandagriff, starting when he was an undergraduate finance student at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He found himself wondering why so many people fail repeatedly in their efforts to reign in personal spending. Rejecting the commonly held wisdom that it is a simple matter of self-control, the system he designed bypasses the psychological barriers to responsible financial behavior. 

After a five year detour spent at a large East Coast investment management firm, during which time he continued to refine the philosophy, Morgan left to team up with Kendall Buchanan, an associate who shared his desire to show the world a better way. Their collaboration resulted in the creation of Banzai, a simple and intuitive web implementation of The Banzai Way. By hearkening back to money management techniques with which each of us was familiar as children, Banzai diverts your attention from the problems of the past and focuses it instead on the spending decisions which lie before you.

Banzai was launched as a subscription-based web application targeted towards adults in 2007. After noting that Banzai was being used with success as tool to teach students to manage money wisely, Kendall and Morgan relaunched the site as a free service with an educational focus in late 2008.

Founded in Philadelphia, Kendagriff, LLC is now headquartered in Provo, Utah.
